Augmented Reality Startup Ubiquity6 Emerges from Stealth With $10.5M in Funding

Ubiquity6, an augmented reality startup only a few months out of stealth, today announced a $10.5M Series A round led by Index Ventures, with First Round Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Google’s AI fund Gradient Ventures, LDVP, A&E Networks and WndrCo.

The company, which is working to solve problems in real-time 3D mapping, photogrammetry, multi-user localization, and deep learning for semantic understanding of the environment, recently revealed their opening gambit—an AR app for iOS and Android that they say “lets you turn any physical location into a space for all kinds of shared experiences.”

In a recent blog post, the company revealed they’re focusing on the social aspects of smartphone-driven augmented reality, and pushing for more persistent AR interactions, or what the company says will allow “anybody with a smartphone to edit reality.” Some of the examples shown by Ubiquity6 include watering persistent, virtual plants in a public square, creating an collaborative AR sculpture, and playing a game of AR basketball with multiple users.

The Ubiquity app for iOS, Android and VR is due out sometime this summer. The video below was shot directly from the Ubiquity app for iOS.

Founded early last year by Anjney Midha (CEO) and Ankit Kumar (CTO), who were roommates during their previous undergrad years at Stanford, the company is made up of engineers, designers and advisors with previous experience at Metamind, Twitter, Facebook, Tesla, Magic Leap, Electronic Arts and Zynga. Ubiquity6 exited stealth in September 2017, although at the time didn’t detail the extent of the Series A.
